Tomorrow, October 15th, The DC Labor Film Festival’s Whistleblower Film Series continues with a screening of Silkwood. The film is sponsored by the National Whistleblowers Center and recounts the true story of Karen Silkwood, the gutsy plutonium factory worker who took on her supervisor’s unethical practices at the plant where she worked.

After she was contaminated by harmful radiation at the plant, Silkwood began her own investigation into the poor safety record of her employer. She was on her way to meet with a New York Times reporter when she was killed in a mysterious car accident. The film stars Meryl Streep as Silkwood, with Kurt Russell and Cher in the supporting cast.

The screening will begin at 6:30 pm in Room 2247 of the Rayburn House Office Building. After the film, there will be a panel discussion with David Burnham, the New York Times reporter Silkwood was supposed to meet with the night she died and Peter Stockton the senior investigator for the House of Representatives into the mysterious death of Silkwood.

We hope you all can join us!
